Scuba Diving in Bocas del Toro

While in Bocas, Dave took a 3 day scuba diving certification course (Christina already has her advanced certification). Here are a few of the pics from our dives. Visibility wasn’t amazing, but now that we’re both certified we can dive at other places along our travels.

Dragos Beach and Starfish Beach

The first day in Bocas we took a short cab ride to Playa de Dragos and Playa de Estrella (Starfish).

DRAGOS BEACH
A small peaceful beach with a small hut off a long dock:

There is also a bunch of palm trees that extend over the sand and water:

Finally, Dragos had pillars in the water that were perfect for my karate kid training!

STARFISH BEACH
Located about a 5 minute walk from Dragos, Starfish Beach is a bit larger and the waters are filled with starfish. Although, the starfish population here is shrinking due to visitors taking them out if the water causing them to die almost instantly. So when taking pictures you have to keep them under water like this:

Here’s a couple pictures of the views of starfish beach and its calm waters:

Bocas del Torro

Our trip to Bocas began with a 10 hour bus ride. The temperature was a chilly 17 degrees Celsius the entire ride. Passengers covered themselves with blankets and hooded sweatshirts to stay warm. From Almirante we took a “lancha” to La Isla de Colon.20131126-133049.jpg
